Additional Minutes Notes

Minutes

UNDERGRADUATE COUNCIL

Minutes of Undergraduate Council meeting on 05/07/2010

Council of Academic Administrators Notes:
With the EXCEPTION OF TWO ITEMS, all business of the Undergraduate Council at the May 7, 2010 meeting was APPROVED (Sullivan-Gonzalez/Hopkins) The two items not approved were: The Plus/Minus Grading Scale Implementation Plan was TABLED - this action was taken as Provost Stocks indicated that the incoming ASB President expressed concern that the students were not informed about the contents of the implementation plan. Provost Stocks said that he would encourage the Academic Council to give her one month to talk with students. The plan was tabled until the next meeting. The Student Petition of George Green was DENIED (Hopkins/Rholes) - Dean Hopkins told the council that there are many students in the College of Liberal Arts in this situation. The Undergraduate Council routinely denied appeals to use an earlier catalog to circumvent the GPA requirement. While Dean Hopkins is not opposed to devising a way to fairly help all of the students in this situation, he did not believe it was fair to approve this appeal when many other students are going to extraordinary measures to meet the GPA requirement.
