UNDERGRADUATE COUNCIL

Minutes of Undergraduate Council meeting on 08/18/2010

Council of Academic Administrators Notes:
The Minutes of the Undergraduate Council of 8/18/2010 were considered in 4 separate motions. Motion 1: To approve Course, Changes, Additions, and Deletions (Hopkins/Gispen)- passed without notable discussion Motion 2: To approve program change in the B.F.A. in Theatre Arts (Hopkins/Chitwood) – passed without notable discussion Motion 3: To approve the student petition of K.M. Witherspoon (Cyree/Norton) Discussion: Originally, this was approved by Undergraduate Council with a deadline to complete the missing coursework by the end of the fall semester. Given that the semester had already started, this deadline was extended to the end of the spring semester. The motion to approve the petition with the new spring deadline passed. Motion 4: To approve the New Degree Program, Bachelor of Integrative Studies (Chitwood/Eftink) Discussion: There was considerable discussion about this new degree program. After a description of the degree program and a history of how it came to be developed and considered, several comments were made, concerns were raised, and questions were asked. This discussion led to a secondary motion. Secondary motion: to change the name to Bachelor of General Studies (Eftink/Sullivan-Gonzalez) Discussion on the secondary motion: A description of how the name was chosen was provided and concerns about the use of the term “integrative” were discussed. The secondary motion to change the name to Bachelor of General Studies passed. After the secondary motion passed, the question was called on the motion to approve the New Degree Program, Bachelor of General Studies – the motion passed.
