Additional Minutes Notes
NOTE: Effective immediately "Last 12 of 21 hour residency requirement" – Approved (On behalf of the Deans, a modification to the “Last 21 Hour Residency Requirement” policy that has already been approved to be implemented in the Fall 2020 semester. The modification would be for the policy to be implemented immediately.) Approved by the Council of Academic Administrators 4/7/2020 by Electronic Vote (The implementation of the enacted “Last 21 credits hours” will be immediate. Students will not be required to submit an appeal for this change.) NOTE: Grading Option Motions Passed by Graduate Council/Following Motions Approved on March 27, 2020 Zoom CAA Emergency Meeting Motion 1: To approve mandatory pass/fail implementation for all JD and LLM Spring 2020 courses in the Law School. APPROVED - AMENDMENT: Courses taught by law faculty with course designations in other schools will have grades assigned in the manner consistent with grading options in those schools. APPROVED Motion 2: That we use for graduate courses not offered by the Law School the same system and language as the Council of Academic Administrators implemented for undergraduate courses. Any publications explaining the above options must include the following information: “Graduate students are encouraged to speak with their advisor about the implications of changing letter grades. The University cannot guarantee that the P or Z grade will meet requirements for licensure, credentialing, or future employment. In addition, financial aid eligibility may be affected.” APPROVED Motion 3: Due to the COVID-19 emergency and difficulties for potential applicants in sitting for standardized tests, the Graduate School will allow programs that require a standardized test as part of the application for admission to suspend the requirement, for Summer 2020 and Fall 2020 admissions. Programs that opt to do so cannot use the standardized test as a requirement for admission or in their admissions decisions during the COVID-19 crisis and they cannot deny anyone admission based on performance on the test. An individual previously denied admission to such programs for the Summer 2020 and/or Fall 2020 terms based on their score on the standardized test can request re-review of their application. Programs that wish to waive the standardized test requirement must submit a written request with justification to the Graduate School (by email to askluck@olemiss.edu) from the GPC, with approval indicated in the email from the department chair (if applicable) and line dean. The request should mention the application deadline, the test to be waived, and the status of applications (such as whether any applicants have already been denied based on test score). The Graduate Dean will decide whether to approve the request and notify the GPC. Programs that are approved to suspend a standardized test requirement must publish information about the change in application procedures on their program website. APPROVED Motion 4: That graduate programs accept the DET on a case-by-case basis until test centers reopen, using the score of 110 as a base minimum score to prove English proficiency. However, because the DET is based on general English proficiency rather than academic readiness and proficiency, the IEP recommends that higher minimums be established depending on program needs and expectations. Additional cut score recommendations are as follows. APPROVED
